How Strength Training Helps in Every Day Activities
Mostly everyone can assume that strength training makes you…well…strong! But how does this translate to life outside of the gym? Luckily, there are many benefits to strength training that you can feel in your day-to-day life!
Enhanced Functional Performance
Strength training can help enhance your functional performance in day-to-day activities by improving your stability, posture, control and strength. Everyday tasks like carrying groceries, climbing stairs, lifting heavy objects, moving furniture and carrying children become easier and safer when you practice strength training.
Increased Energy and Stamina
Strength training is great for boosting your endurance and giving you the energy you need to perform daily activities with greater efficiency and reduced risk of injury or exhaustion. It improves your cardiovascular health, increases your blood flow and oxygen delivery to muscles which all helps to combat fatigue. Additionally, strength training builds muscle mass, which gives women a metabolic boost, leading to a higher metabolic resting rate and increased energy expenditure throughout the day.
We have preached before about how strength training is great for your mental well-being. Strength training releases endorphins, which is your body’s natural mood enhancer, which can help contribute to your feeling of increased energy.
Improved Joint Health and Flexibility
Another great benefit to strength training is improved joint health and flexibility. Strength training strengthens the muscles that surround your joints, which helps to reduce joint pain and helps prevent conditions such as arthritis. It increases bone density, which reduces the risk of conditions such as osteoporosis and helps improve overall skeletal health, which is important for women as they age. Additionally, by strengthening your core through exercises like deadlifts and planks, it supports proper body mechanics which gives you better balance and reduces back pain.
Here are some exercises/techniques that target joint mobility and flexibility:
- Resistance band exercises
- Pilates/yoga
- Foam rolling
- Dynamic stretching
As we have shared many times before, strength training has MANY different benefits. Now, you can see that those benefits are both in the gym and outside of the gym! To see for yourself, you can check out our package options or chat with a trainer to learn more!
