Burn Off Extra Holiday Calories
Whether you are staying in the comforts of your own home or traveling across many states, Thanksgiving is a holiday to be shared with family and friends and a wonderful reason to socialize, relax, and eat loads of delicious food. Regardless of what you are doing, you may find yourself too busy to maintain your regular exercise regimen or too lazy to begin new, healthy traditions with family and friends. This Thanksgiving, try to make fitness a part of your family traditions with a few of the ideas below. Not only are these activities fun, but also they will help burn some of the calories you’re taking in!
Fitness Traditions:
- After the meal get the whole family to go on a walk through the neighborhood.
- Create a competition among family members. Start with something simple such as wall sit challenges, etc.
- Make a fun game day. Instead of centering everything on food make interactive games that keep everyone moving and not picking food around the table, such as a family football game.
- Go for a jog or run Thanksgiving day morning.
- Exercise while you cook. Lunge across the kitchen or squat in place when you are stirring pots or opening the oven.
- Enter a Turkey Day 5k trot. Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity will have their 10th Annual Turkey Trot this Thursday that begins at The Loop at Wrightsville Beach Park.
